Paulo Coelho once said, "Nothing happens in the world by accident." A year ago I would argue with this statement. All this journey began by accident. I met an old friend by accident. We accidentally started talking about various possibilities. She accidentally showed me the portal "European Solidarity Corps". I accidentally looked at him and logged in - why not. I accidentally chose Italy as my travel destination. I accidentally found myself in Reggio Emilia. And suddenly, here the cases end, because at first big happiness - they chose me, me, it turned into even more terrified. but what now. I have to go. And today looking back on my year here, I already understand what the author meant. This time here, in this place was not only a journey of life, but a journey through the life. I had the opportunity to touch Italian culture – speak with people, tasting food, admire architecture. Being here, making every inhale, you absorb the smell and essences of the ancient times of human power, here every street, every house, every pavement is a memory of greatest people and their greatest achievements.
A year is not so much it may seem, only 365 days, but this year means a lot to me because here every day was valuable and extraordinary. My duty was to help a team of people who take care of groups who come to do monthly internship in everyday life situations. This is how I got a job in an office with extraordinary people. Thanks to them every day I wanted to get out of bed and go to work, I wanted to look for new solutions. Every day was a combination of work and pleasure, because through common talk and jokes, moments of horror and nervousness every day we brought a smile to the face of our pupil and we guaranteed that for them this time will unforgettable. The people who I met here are people of a huge heart who will forever have a special place in my heart. They made this time unforgettable for me.
However, this place, these people and this environment also influenced on my soul. It allowed me to open myself and understand who I really am, what are my dreams, ideals and desires. And maybe sometimes, was hard, was longing, was sad but it was great and amazing time which for sure I will not give to anyone, I will keep it forever. And when I will hesitate in the future I will come back to these moments and quickly remind myself why sometimes it is worth being brave because only extraordinary experiences allow us to do extraordinary things. And as Confucius believed: "A thousand-mile journey begins with the first step", I agree with that and i thing that to become a volunteer in EVS is the best possibility to do first step too.
